The Coat of Arms
The coat of arms of the Radnor Arms Hotel, is, according to The College of Arms, a lose depiction of those borne by the medieval Mortimer family. These are usually blazoned (described in heraldic terminology) as Barry Or and Azure a Chief paly the corners gyronny over all an Inescutcheon Argent. The Mortimers did not have a Crest (the device on top of the helmet).
The Mortimers were significant figures in the Welsh Marches in the centuries after the Norman Conquest of England. www.mortimerhistorysociety.org.uk/the-mortimers/mortimer-heraldry/

The Hotel
"The Radnor Arms (is thought to) date back to 1700 and was later extended with the acquisition of the property next door.
By the 1850s the proprietor was one Thomas Jones.
During the Second World War the Radnor Arms was run by Albert William Swane and became popular with British troops stationed at nearby Harpton Court and Downton and with American troops stationed at Kington.
Fire nearly destroyed the public house in December 1976 when the roof and several bedrooms were damaged. It was the third fire in 15 years and it was forced to close for several weeks, but thankfully it reopened." (Source: PubsCymru.co.uk)

The Fires
The impact of the fires, one in 1963, allegedly due to the petrol pumps which were to the right of the present building, and one in December 1976 or 1977, were devastating to the building, losing all three chimneys, and the whole upper elevation of the right hand half of the building. It was never fully re-built. The chimneys were taken down, and the flues closed off. A single storey, with flat asphalt roof, replaced the two storeyed right hand building.

Today
In 2016 the Radnor Arms Hotel closed. Despite being a viable business, and valuable community asset, it ceased trading and fell into disrepair.
Six years later, on Thursday 20th October 2022, The Radnor Arms Hotel was purchased at auction by an interim funder, and saved for the Community, the purchase being completed on 17th November 2022.
On 11th November 2022, The Radnor Arms Hotel Community Benefit Society was formed, and registered with the Financial Conduct Authority under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. Its registration number is 8974.
The Community are now fund raising to pay for The Radnor Arms Hotel's purchase, and to pay for its repair.
The building is in a very poor state of repair, but the community is working hard to bring it back to life. It hopes to be able to welcome pub, restaurant and hotel goers back to a warm & inviting pub and hotel again soon.
